How to Choose the Suitable OCC?

OCC (Fiber Optic Cross-connect Cabinet, also called FDH – Fiber Distribution Hub) is designed to provide a local convergence point (LCP) in an Outside Plant (OSP) environment. It houses fiber optic splitters that distribute optical signals from the headend or Central Office (CO) to the distribution cable network that serves fiber‑to‑the‑premises connections. A good OCC or FDH provides high-density fiber connectivity in a compact, weatherproof enclosure. It is suitable for FTTH, telecommunications, CATV, and local area network applications. Listed here are some tips for choosing a suitable outdoor cabinet.

1. Capacity
The markets demand a higher subscriber count, and the capacity for the OCC is from 48, 72, 96, 144, 288, to 576, 1152, and so on.

2. Material
OCC can be made of sheet moulding compound (SMC), cold‑rolled steel (SPCC), or stainless steel. SMC material offers good heat insulation and corrosion resistance. SPCC or stainless steel material with powder coating provides additional protection.

3. Performance
The OCC should be designed for outdoor environmental applications, provide heat insulation, waterproof and dustproof performance (IP65), and mechanical protection for the fiber management functions of splicing, patching, and splitting.

4. Rack- Mountable
For rack‑mountable outdoor cabinets and active (powered) outdoor cabinets, dedicated models are available separately to meet different requirements.

5. Installation Type
OCC has the capacity of concrete pad mounting, wall mounting and pole mounting.
